Crock Pot

What a great fucking invention. If you have a house or an apartment and don't own one of these, you are truly missing out.

At lunch today, I threw in a thing of pork with this DELICIOUS honey bbq sauce (check it out here: http://www.qproductsinc.com/bbq_sauce.html) and set that fucker for 8 hours. left, came back to work, and now I'll have a delicious meal to come home to tonight.

That's all it fucking takes! Genius! The pork is so good cooked in there too, gotta love that slow cooking so it falls apart all over. and man, you have to try that BBQ sauce out. it's amazing. i kept on stealing some before.

Also, you can cook virtually anything in the crock pot. one of my favorite things is throwing in some bratwurst and saurkraut, and letting that shit cook up and soak all the flavors. so excellent.

amazing invention.......slow cooking makes everything taste better. My wife made some EXQUISITE home made mac'n cheese in the crock pot just recently. She also makes some damn good cranberry chicken in it.

Also, what about the fact you can do soups and dips in them as well? Potato soup is DELICIOUS from the crock pot and who doesn't like a little QUESO!!!!

Last week I whipped up some tasty Swedish meatballs in my crock pot. I don't know what I would do without mine.

Thing is great. I posted in the last thing you ate thread about some country style ribs I had tossed in there. And so effortless.

Made a Chicken, sausage, and white bean chili yesterday in my crock pot. it was spectacular. I substituted out the chicken sausage for regular italian sweet sausage though. I'd recommend trying out this recipe for anyone who has one of these things. Chili and football. YUM

My mom recently unearthed a crockpot and began using it after many years. The thing is from the damn 70's, a friggin' relic.

So I bought some kind of roast at the supermarket this weekend, Roast beef I think, i'm not sure the exact cut. Didn't feel like cooking it in the oven, broke out the crockpot that I haven't used since college, salted, peppered and garlic-ed the shit of the roast, cut up a big potato threw that in and poured in the last of the bottle of red wine I had....set it to low and 12 hours later I had an amazing meal that's going to last me a few days. The juices from the beef mix in and create a great gravy....... Really a great invention, I'm going to try to cook ribs in it next. It is also healthy which is a plus.

this will probably seem like a really stupid question to those who are crock pot pros, but I have a crock pot recipe book and EVERYthing in it, you have to brown the meat before putting it in the crock pot to cook. It's like, if I'm going to do that, I might as well cook something on the stove and just eat it that way. Do you really just put in uncooked meat and let it cook for 8 hours and it's legit cooked through? That's how it sounds from what you say, why is my recipe book telling me otherwise? Sorry if this is a RIDICULOUS question or if you had a good laugh reading this, but I genuinely would like to know so I can use mine for more than chili and soup (Ps- made a good clam chowder once in it!)!!

thanks

They always say that, but I think it's more on the side of caution. Usually just throw the shit in raw. Just looking, says beef needs an internal temp of 160 degrees. Pretty sure it will get enough heat simmering all day in the crock. Plus, all the temp shit is "ideal". You can eat raw shit all day.

I think for ground beef the browning helps breakup the beef and separate it more so than actually making it safe to eat. I just cooked a pretty thick raw roast beef in the thing and it came out perfect; crispy on the outside and medium on the inside. I had it set on low and cooked it for 12 hours. The crock pot isn't something I see myself using everyday, as I usually have time to cook.....but it is cool to just throw stuff in there and come back after work and have a hot meal ready.

trish, we put a huge pork loin in there raw yesterday for four hours (funny how everyone used it at the same time) and it was perfect after.

I wouldn't worry about browning meat. especially ground beef? I feel like that would cook the easiest in there with so much surface area exposed.

cool, thanks guys! I just needed that reassurance before just throwing in the raw meat (which is most likely chicken, turkey, and pork--being that I don't eat red meat) for a few hours while I'm out at work, and come home to an insufficient meal!

we've put entire raw chickens in there, so no worries at all.

i was concerned at first, but it definitely cooks it up good.
