Behold The Power Of Zubaz

I wear Zubaz. You wear Zubaz. I’m pretty sure Conan O’Brien wears Zubaz. We know cool people wear Zubaz, but we could not confirm bonafide American heroes wear Zubaz. Until now. Frank Reich played 13 NFL seasons for Buffalo, Carolina, Detroit and the NY Jets. He earned his dollop of fame during his run as Jim Kelly’s back up during Buffalo’s Super Bowl also-ran run. In college, he quarterbacked the University of Maryland to overcome a 31-point deficit against the U in 1984 for the greatest comeback in college football history. Did his Christian faith inspire Reich to victory? Was it his thick, lustrious hair? Nobody knew, until now.

Behold … Zubaz!

Yes, from the NFL Gameday magazine sold at Rich Stadium for the Sept. 1992 Bills-Colts game, a 38-0 Buffalo victory. (It was a long time ago, obviously.)

Let us take a closer look at the glory.

It is no coincidence that mere months after this photo appeared, Reich led the Bills to a 32-point comeback against the Houston Oilers in the 1993 playoffs. Look at that awkward facial expression. Look at the fake action pose, like he’s trying to run through time. Can’t you see his heart of a champion grow two sizes wearing the Zubaz?

Too bad the Bills didn’t choose Zubaz as their Super Bowl XXVII uniform.

The jacket is sweet too.

    I refuse to decide if the best part about Zubaz are the stripes or the elastic ankles so the tapered leg can rest comfortably atop those Reebok High Tops w/handi-strap.

    If only they had hung around long enough for Baltimurder fans to rep with purple camo.
